Sci-Fi dorks of the world unite …
I’m an unashamed sci-fi fan. My all-time favourite film is Blade Runner, closely followed by Aliens and then the original The Matrix. So I’m excited to be going to see Star Trek next week. This particularly reinvention of a venerable sci-fi franchise apparently has the advantage of being watchable, which is a bonus.
Another movie that I’m looking forward to seeing did, I must admit, slip under my radar until very recently. Called Moon, it stars Sam Rockwell and has echoes of 2001 about it – not least because of where both films are/were set – watch the trailer and I think you’ll agree that are definite echoes of HAL about the mining base’s computer.
The other day I downloaded a movie called Happy Go Lucky for the missus. I hadn’t intended to watch this, but then I found myself 15 minutes into the film when I was just checking the quality of the rip. So I decided to watch it with her. Can’t say I’m much of a Mike Leigh fan, but I thought it was a clever and very witty film. No deep message attached to it – just an observation on modern life.
